CPA®, MST®, CFP®, PFS®
Stephen Polan, CPA®, MST®, CFP®, PFS® is a personal financial counselor and the principal of Prime Investment Advisors, an asset management firm. In addition, Mr. Polan has worked with public and private corporations and has extensive experience in helping their executives maximize company benefit and incentive award plans.
Mr. Polan began his career with Ernst & Young, as an auditor and a member of their tax practice. In 1979, he joined the corporate tax department of MCI Communications Corporation. As the company embarked upon a period of dynamic growth, Mr. Polan assisted many of its executives with the financial and tax-savings gains associated with the company's qualified and non-qualified stock plans.
In 1986, Mr. Polan established PRIME FINANCIAL RESOURCES and began providing tax and investment counseling services with many MCI corporate executives privately. To complement the full service needs of his clients, Mr. Polan earned securities and insurance licenses and entered strategic brokerage affiliations with W.S. Griffith & Co., Inc., a FINRA Broker/Dealer and Phoenix Home Life Insurance. In 1990, Mr. Polan established Prime Benefit Services Corporation in order to counsel small business and affinity group clients in the area of compensation and employee benefit plan design.
In 1991, Mr. Polan established PRIME INVESTMENT ADVISORS, an SEC and state regulated Registered Investment Advisor, in order to provide financial counseling and asset management services in compliance with SEC and state regulatory requirements.
Mr. Polan earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of Maryland (1978), completing it in three years, cum laude, and passed the CPA® exam in his first sitting (November 1978). He earned a Masters degree in Taxation from the University of Baltimore (1985). In 1993, he passed the CFP® exam at the College for Financial Planning. In 2001, he earned the AICPA®'s Personal Financial Specialist (PFS®) designation. Mr. Polan's industry activities include membership in the AICPA® (American Institute of CPAs), AICPA®'s Personal Financial Specialist Section, MACPA® (MD Association for CPAs), FPA (Financial Planning Association) and FPANCA (DC Area local chapter of the FPA).
His greatest interest is to educate other CPAs and CPA® firms on the importance of the CPA®'s role in the financial planning process.
Grace Polan joined her husband at Prime in 1988 after the birth of their first daughter, Sondra, and began working full time after the birth of their second daughter, Suzanne. She graduated from Gettysburg College in 1978 with a BA in business administration and received an MBA® in Marketing from George Washington University in 1985. She worked for 10 years for Verizon prior to joining Prime.
Steve and Grace reside in Bethesda, MD.
Laura Wolz started with Prime in September 2010 as an Administrative Assistant and became a Staff Advisor in January 2011. Miss Wolz graduated from American University in Washington, DC with a BA in journalism and philosophy. She is originally from Denver, Colorado.
Anna is interning with Prime for the 2018 summer. She is a rising junior at the University of Maryland College Park. She is studying Operations Management and Business Analytics with a minor in Sustainability Studies.
